Gold Stored Abroad – Is Zakat Due?
Gold stored in another country is still zakatable. The location of your wealth does not affect your Zakat obligation.
If you own gold in another country—whether with family, in a safe deposit box, or in a foreign bank—it is zakatable if you have owned it for one year.
Ownership Is What Matters
Location does not exempt wealth.
Zakat is based on ownership and control, not location. If you own gold, it does not matter if it is in the UK, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, or anywhere else. If you have owned it above nisab for one year, Zakat is due.
