Zakat on Joint Bank Accounts

Joint accounts require you to calculate Zakat on your share only. Each account holder is responsible for their portion.

If you share a bank account, you only pay Zakat on the portion that belongs to you. Each person calculates and pays Zakat individually.

How to Split Joint Accounts

Determine ownership clearly. For most couples, joint accounts are split 50/50. If you and your spouse each contribute equally, you each include half the balance in your Zakat calculation. If contributions are unequal, split according to actual ownership.
