Zakat on Money Set Aside for Bills

Money saved for upcoming bills may be deductible in some cases, but scholars differ. Immediate debts can reduce your zakatable wealth.

If you have set aside money to pay bills that are due very soon, some scholars allow you to deduct this amount from your zakatable wealth. However, this only applies to debts that are due immediately.

When Can You Deduct Bills?

Only if the debt is due now. If you owe rent, utilities, or credit card payments that are due this month, you can deduct these amounts from your Zakat calculation. Money saved for future bills (e.g., next year's rent) is not deductible.
