Zakat on Rental Properties
Rental properties are not zakatable, but the rental income you receive is zakatable once it has been in your possession for one year.
If you own property that you rent out, the property itself is not zakatable. However, the rent you collect becomes zakatable after one year.
Why Rental Property Is Not Zakatable
It is for income
not resale.
If you bought property to rent it out and earn income (not to sell it), the property itself is not zakatable. It is treated like a business asset held for use, not trade.
